WELCOME LETTER
We are pleased to announce the Second Congress on Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion with international participation under the motto ”Equal in Health”. Croatia has a long tradition of dedication to health, from the health of individuals, to that of communities and the world as a whole. By organising this Congress, Croatia as a country takes over the responsibility of regularly reviewing the current and enhancing the new knowledge, improving the health of its own people and establishing bridges within the international community.
The Congress is organised by the Croatian Society of Public Health in association with the Croatian National Institute of Public Health, County Institutes of Public Health and Andrija Štampar School of Public Health, School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. It is based on enhancing the medical knowledge and state responsibility for initiating and encouraging positive changes in human lifestyle. Thus we invite all physicians, regardless of their specialty, and other experts whose knowledge and work include preventive care, to participate in the Congress and make their knowledge optimally effective in improving public health. We will examine social inequalities in health, demographic health, ethics in public health and primary healthcare, strategy for preventive medicine in Croatia, mental health, and examine the position of Croatian public health within the international public health.
Overview
The demand for preventive medicine and health promotion is continuously increasing. Many people are now living on the principle that “prevention is better than cure”. Preventive medicine helps promote healthy lifestyle to help people avoid acquiring diseases and health disorders. This also promotes responsible lifestyle to contribute to the overall well- being of the community.
The 2nd Croatian Congress on Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion is one of the global initiatives to promote the importance of preventive medicine. Held on October 13- 16, 2010 at Zagreb, Croatia, the convention aimed to enhance the medical knowledge on the promotion of healthy lifestyle to people. It was organized by the Croatian Society of Public Health, together with other health and academic organizations that aims to promote and uphold public safety and wellness.
More than 920 participants from 15 various countries, Croatian counties, and 93 institutions attended the congress that lasted for three days. Through workshops and discussions on various topics concerning public health threats and other health issues, various propositions that serve the agenda of the congress where produced. Resource speakers who are notable personalities in various health fields presented interesting topics to the attendees.
Conferences such as this in Croatia are attended by many professionals from other countries. Travel to and in Croatia will most likely include automobile travel. Visitors need to be aware of regulations to make sure they are in compliance, including identification, licensing and cheap car insurance policies for those who will be driving.
